Win $100 gift card to buy Alton Brown inspired kitchen gear... or not

I have been fortunate to strike up a great partnership with CSN Stores, a fabulous company featuring 200+ online stores with products from platform beds to just about anything for your kitchen. In this partnership, I've been able to giveaway some great kitchen related products with some sort of Alton Brown twist to you great readers.

It is with great excitement that I get to make another contest announcement!

This time I'm calling the giveaway Gear for Your Kitchen, as inspired by AB's book. I don't talk much about Gear, but it is my go to source when thinking about a new purchase for the kitchen. Most of his specs on items are very helpful in selecting new gear.

So, for this spectacular giveaway I have a $100 gift card from CSN Stores! That means the lucky winner will get to select goodies from any of the 200+ online stores. In the past, I have found cookware.com and kitchen section of allmodern.com to offer many fun items. There's even a site for grills and other grilling equipment: barbecuegrillsandmore.com. Whatever the winner ends up getting, however, is up that lucky person. But, if I won, you know it would go toward kitchen gear!

Now, how to get your hands on the $100 for the goods.

Just post a comment about something AB has inspired you to cook (or build ;) ) and/or something you would like to add to your kitchen gear collection. Include a first name, location (US and Canada residents only) on the post. Also, I need a method of contacting the winner, so drop that comment to contest@altonbrownfans.com

The contest will be open until July 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST. After that, I will pick the winner via the randomizer at random.org.

Good luck!

I built the dehydrator and made my own jerky. one of many many things i've tried of his. I would buy a meat smoker with that cash money.

He inspired me to get an ice cream maker. I've tried several recipes and am working up to his "premium" ice cream version.

My next purchase would have to be a good mixer or a mandoline.

My most recent inspiration via AB was blueberry muffins from I'm Just Here for More Food. Mighty yum! Right now the kitchen gear I'm itching for is an infared (laser?) thermometer. And a food processor. And a kitchen scale.

I think I would love a heavy duty blender. It is hot now and having it available for smoothies, shakes and so many other things.

I made the Mac and cheese of his that was in the People magazine, that had the Princes of England on the cover, and it was really great mac and cheese. I usually make the mac and cheese that's on the back of the Golden Grain elbow macaroni, but his had more flavor to it. The onion and bay leaf gave more flavor than the cheese did, and I use triscuts that are smashed up, but the panko was really good for the topping.

I'd do a bunck of little kitcken gadgets for my kitchen. I have a very small kitchen. Probably the whole thing, is about four feet, nowindows, no dishwasher, and the walkin is about three feet. No gas stovetop, small fridge, and the biggest thing in my kitchen is the oven/range.

Alton Brown has inspired me just to keep cooking. I am at the point in my life where many things have become more diffucult to do and watching Alton inspires me to just keep on enjoying and experimenting while cooking. This is a huge thing. Thanks! I love everything for the kitchen...I still don't have a good mixer though. Or a useable food processor. There are many things I would enjoy. It would be hard to choose but I'd enjoy every second of it.

Alton Brown is so informative and so entertaining. But most of all he's always inspirational, so by that I've been able to enjoy exploring more ways to improve my culinary skills by doing his recipes and gathering some of the same kitchen tools he uses. What I still need is a mixer, hand-held or preferebly a Kitchenaid mixer and a good dutch oven like a Le Creuset.

the "Cornbread No Chaser" was so great to learn about and how he used buttermilk instead of milk - this inspires me to be innovative with recipes that already exist :)

He inspired me to update my kitchen equipment and learn a new way of cooking. (I finally bought the KitchenAid mixer I always wanted.) Every recipe of his I try has brought rave reviews from friends and family.

AB continues to inspire me. I watch his show and start planning my next recipe of his to attempt. (Have you tried the 40 cloves and a Chicken... YUM!!!)

"Making Alton's baked beans is my proudest feat so far - I'd never have
used dried beans without his inspiration! Or jalepenos!

If I won I'd get an infrared thermometer. My secret desire is an All Clad skillet
or saucier, but that'll have to wait for another (more lucrative) contest! "

Gosh, Alton is a big influence in my kitchen. DH loves his mac & cheese; I adore the meatballs. I even tried homemade eggnog because of him, and I don't even like the stuff. I ventured into buying cast iron, something I was afraid of for a long time, because of Alton.

For a more complete AB take over of my kitchen, I would love to get my grubby hands on a good digital scale, and a few other odds and ends.

I can't begin to list the number of things Alton has inspired me to cook. For starters, I never would have used tofu in a dessert if it weren't for the Moo-Less Chocolate Pie.

I would like to get more cutting boards -- maybe even a big, beautiful butcher block.

AB inspired me to bake my own bread at home with his many shows. Unfortunately, being the poor post-graduate student that I am, I can't afford a stand mixer and mix and knead everything by hand. Some help would be nice :)

AB's inspired me to make French toast, whenever the episode's on. And I really wanna build the terra cotta smoker he put together (oh, and the firepit that he outlines in I'm Just Here For the Food). What gear would I like? Oh, sweet gods - a mandolin, awesomer knives, reliable thermometers . . . I can't go into Williams-Sonoma without deciding that I need everything LOL

While my mother taught me to cook, Alton Brown taught me to cook WELL, and has inspired me to try countless dishes and methods. Specifically, he has recently inspired me to change my way of eating, based on his “four food groups” show. So far, I’m down 30 pounds this year, with quite a ways to go.

I’ve been gradually building my collection up, but I don’t have a food mill…I’m sure that might be one of the purchases I make.

To be honest, AB has inspired me to walk away from the premixed, premade and become a scratch cook. It started with pancakes and waffles. Now I make my own pizza dough, cakes and pasta. I even made my first pie crust and made my first quiche after an AB episode. AB inspires me to be a better all around cook and my family (all made of cooks) couldnt be more pleased.

Hello,

Cooking the traditional Thanksgiving Turkey was something I had always left up to my dad, but ages ago when I started watching Good Eats, I watched Alton's show about Thanksgiving, and it inspired me to take on the challenge of cooking the Thanksgiving Turkey, and it couldn't have come at a better time because Thanksgiving was going to be held at our house for the first time. Well, of course, following Alton's method for cooking the Turkey (marinating in a brine, aluminum foil over the breast, etc.), my Turkey got RAVE reviews, relatives that typically didn't like or eat Turkey, LOVED it.

If I were the lucky winner, I'd use the gift card to purchase any remaining Alton's Angles Shun knives I could find, if not, I'd finally get the best instant-read thermometer on the market, the Thermoworks Thermapen.

Thanks,
Richard
