For Alton Brown's birthday, you get a chance for the gift

I know it's a few days early, but I want to wish Alton Brown a happy 48th birthday. The jury is still out on whether he's now reading stuff about himself online. So, perhaps, he'll see it this time. But I digress.

To kinda, sorta celebrate AB's birthday, I'm giving away the gift to the readers! Up for grabs a copy of the latest cookbook, Good Eats: The Early Years. But wait, it isn't just any version of the book but a signed copy and a specially signed book.

Yes a copy Alton personally signed at the last event I attended in Pennsylvania back in February. This is a photo of him signing it for me.

And even better...
I told him this was for a giveaway on the blog so it wasn't going to any one in particular. The next thing I know he's inscribing the book like this...

Then he proceeded to draw the AB characterture. I told him the lucky person who gets this book will be thrilled with the inscription and drawing.

Now to get this book...

Leave a comment, it can be a simple birthday wish, a thanks for a great application or episode, or anything nice you want to say.

In the comment, leave a name (First and last initial), a location (city/state). If you want to post your email in the comment, that's ok if you want to keep that part private, drop the comment to contest@altonbrownfans.com with your name, location and comment (so I can match it).

The contest is open until July 29 at 11:59 p.m. EST. On AB's birthday, July 30, I will pick the winner via the randomizer at random.org and post the lucky winner's name.

Good luck for contest entrants.

And Happy Birthday Alton!

Happiest of birthdays to Alton. And a thank you for helping make my life so much more rich and interesting. In your teaching I was able to apply my love of science with a love for food, and more recently, with a love for a healthy lifestyle that will keep me cooking, eating, and happy for much longer. Any chance I get the opportunity to "thank Alton," I always try to post this quote which I think about daily:

"In the end, all journeys are spiritual. So go off the main road. Be givers of hospitality and gracious takers of it too. Accept the serendipitous moments of life because, when all is said and done, you may find out that they were not serendipitous at all. And know that faith is as real as bread broken among friends. What you believe will take you far on your journey. If you search carefully, you will find good food all along the way."
-Alton Brown

Thanks. And happy birthday, Alton!

The great Alton Brown! Happy 48th birthday!!! I'm so glad I spent middle school watching Good Eats and not some drama-filled, brain-rotting teenager show. :) My sister and I would watch your show (and the specials) all the time! I still get excited whenever I turn on the TV and Good Eats is showing. :D Who knew a chef could brighten someone's day even when the person isn't in the kitchen or at the dining room table? Happy birthday, and may you enjoy MANY more!!

It'll be hard to one-up myself this year, but a signed copy of one of Alton's books would definitely be the best birthday present yet. I hope Alton (or whoever it is that does the deciding!) reads this and chooses me. You'll make both my mom's and my day! oh who am i kidding...You'll make our YEAR! :)

Thank you!

To thank AB for teaching me how to cook, which nursed me back to health after a serious medical problem, I have put together the following list:

EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED FROM
ALTON BROWN

In the days before science, people came up with some pretty weird reasoning to explain the world around them.

Your patience will be rewarded.

It’s not about finding the biggest or the strongest or the most elaborate or expensive, just the best.

Perhaps true love is best expressed by an hour of hard core culinary combat.

Don’t be taken in by shiny surfaces or dials and extra buttons.

Nothing says love quite like bacon.

Master subtleties before attempting augmentations.

You don’t have to be rich to taste rich.

Keep your mitts off the chips, we need them.

Substitutes don’t have to be the weak link in the chain.

Butter has been slandered by the dark agents of industry and media, and maligned by the frantic fears of a fat-phobic public.

Build it right and they will come.

Practice makes perfect and some of us just need a little more practice than others.

Soot is never good eats.

Silence forever those fanatics who would defame fat and frying as four-letter words when, indeed, they are truly good eats.

Even a nonstick surface is pocked with tiny microscopic crevices and pores, and of course some scratches.

Organization will set you free.

In the right hands, science can taste pretty good.

Hello Lisa, I have been following the site for a few months now, and really like it. Like you and everybody else on the site I like Alton Brown, Good Eats, and everything that he touches. I was not aware that AB birthday was coming up, but was happy to know that his birthday is six days after mine. My birthday is Saturday July 24th, 1989. For my birthday I will be making pulled pork, though not with his contraption as I bought a bullet smoker at a yard sell for 13.00 dollars, so I don't think he would mind. (I did look into all the supplies to make his smoker in episode "Q", but is wasn't really thesis-able). I will also be making his Tres Leche cake, with his Dulce De Leche ice cream.

I would like to wish AB a happy birthday but I would also like to thank him for much more, because of him and Good Eats I fell in love with cooking, and plan on going to a Culinary school up in Iowa. His show is different and better than all the others, and without Good Eats I don't know if I would have fell in love with cooking. I have been waiting for the last four years (when I started watching his show) to finally be able to use all of his recipes. Since this Saturday (July, 24th) is my 21st birthday I will be able to buy and use alcohol in his recipes, I am really excited to make Bananas Foster, and much more.

So happy Birthday AB, and thanks for everything you have done for me, I thank you and my relatives and friends stomach's thank you.

Happy Birthday AB!!! I've felt like it's been my birthday ever since discovering Cooking Channel is running Feasting on Asphalt every Sunday night. YAY!!! I would watch your shows 24/7 but would be starving and divorced. Hope you get something good like a new grill with its own person to clean it.

Alton Brown, you're like the sickest chef I've ever seen. I watch your show all the time. Not only do you give culinary arts a scientific spin, you also make the show fun with all your visual aids and metaphors. I've never read your books only because I'd have to spend the cable money to buy them and, let's face it, cooking without Good Eats to help me when I have no creative inspiration is difficult. July 30th should be a culinary holiday because it was the day that the best thing to happen to Food Network was brought into this world. I thank you sincerely for putting so much effort into teaching your audience the culinary know-how to let us cook easier than most people. Alton Brown, here's to you! The Whiz of the Wok, The Scholar of the Stove, The Master of Molasses: Happy Birthday, I wish you many more, and I know we as a fanbase wish for many more happy seasons of *cue theme music* GOOD EATS!

Alton, I wish you the happiest of birthdays with many, many more to come! Thank you for all of the inspiration and for GE! I could watch it all day! I love how you bring science into the kitchen, its so interesting to learn whats happening in that mixing bowl or in that pan! I will forever be a fan, and I can't wait until my child is old enough to appreciate your show and the knowledge you bring to all of your fans. Your books and the episodes of GE will help me in the future to teach my son the essentials of cooking. I cannot wait for that! Thank you again, Alton for all of the great recipes and again, for inspiring all of us to get in the kitchen and whip up some "Good Eats"!!

Hello!!
Hi, my name is Lynn. I can't believe that I found this site last min.! My boyfriend and I have been watching GOod Eats every night @ 10 this summer. AB is a inspiring man to both of us. Since my bf has introduced me to AB, we have been getting ideas and cookin away in the kitchen. ha Well anyway I think it will be a great gift for my bf's birthday coming up. Not only is Good Eats a great show, but AB's story and his journey to getting where he is today motivates us everyday.

So.....
Happy Happy Birthday Mr. Alton Brown! Hope you have a big celebration. :)

Oh! also, I am currently living in Minneapolis but will be moving back to LA at the end of the month.

THanks!
