I found out a few minutes ago that the winners of the Great Good Eats fan contest were notified.
I'm not a winner.
I'm not a Good Eats great fan.
I'm not an Alton Brown fan either. Remember, I tried to win that title from the Dear Food Network: Grilling show.
And now I ask myself, why did I even enter it? I knew I had no chance.
But, I hope the winners have a great time and enjoy the event. If they haven't met AB before, they will be thrilled and will have a super time. And if they have met him before, they will have another fantastic experience.

Wow!
I can't believe it. You video was so good. And you do this blog, I beat Alton will call you a great Good Eats fan! :D
Awww...shoot...
Lisa, to AB (and to the rest of your fans and followers like me) you are the première and best GE and AB fan out there...
I can't believe you didn't win...your video was the most honest and least pretentious of them all...(plus I viewed about 15X...lol...)
I am willing to bet AB did not see it or was in on the choice.
Chin up...
Thanks gingerbread and Terrie
It would have meant so, so much to me to win. Not for the tickets to the event, but the honor of being name a great fan.
I agree with both gingerbread & Terrie. I never win anything, either. You've been lucky enough to see him several times, which is much more than some of us. ;)
did anyone we know win?
@Lauren -- I wouldn't classify my experiences of meeting Alton in person as lucky. I have been fortunate enough to now have some money and ability to travel to his events. I have paid for the opportunity to meet him every time.
I know I'm bummed. We don't need the Food Network to tell us whether or not we're the 'best' fans, though. The proof is in our love of cooking and how much we've learned from AB over the last ten years. For me at least...
Well Luke, now I'm doubly sad. You had an awesome video! I was hoping you were one of the chosen.
Don't worry, Lisa. I didn't win either. :( ...but that doesn't mean we're not AB's biggest fans. We're *all* "Good Eats Great Fans," regardless of what the contest said. ;) Luke's right, we don't need to prove it, and I'm sure AB would think so too.
But at least you're going, and I know you'll have an incredible time! I know if I could get at least 50 feet from Alton, I'd be so excited i'd get caught in a fangirl tizzy! (in a good way, of course!)
@coffeeflvrdkiss -- Ok now I know that contest was rigged, because your video was awesome as well!
Hey, I didn't even KNOW you could try to win free tickets to the thing (scrambled for moneys like crazy for mine). I also didn't know about the grilling thing until it was already on tv, which made me both sad and also wonder where everyone else got the memo... And I've never even met the guy before. anyway, the point is I'd still consider myself a fan, despite that stuff. so uh... I can't imagine that knowing about the opportunities, trying really hard to get to them, and happening to not win makes you less of a fan of anything. Gosh I hope that comment made any sense.
@ Erin -- I get it ;)
I know that I am a really big fan. It was always about the honor of winning. Maybe I'm caught up in wanting recognition... and I know that's wrong. But it sure would have felt nice to earn that great fan title and have my video in the show.
I'm such a fan that I bought my tickets, even left for work late that day to get the first round of tickets because I wanted to be at the event.
Fortunate definite. Lucky to me in that he's been more accessible to you.
Well Lauren, just wait until you get to see AB in October :) I'll have a super time. Just don't forget your name! and the breath ;)
I keep telling myself that! I also have to make sure I call them as soon as they post it so I can make sure that I'm going!
It's gonna be a great birthday present to myself! (Oct. 19 ;) )
Spectacular birthday present!
Makes me sad I didn't win either...but I did buy 3rd row orchestra tickets!!
