May Atlanta magazine's Ask Alton

I received my May copy of Atlanta magazine yesterday and quickly turned to the table of contents for Alton Brown's column. To my horror, there was no Ask Alton column this month! I'll check online to see if they post it there. Oh bother!

And the ironic thing, this issue was the "food" issue. ;)

My boyfriend and I need to know the history behind turkey drumstick frills (booties). When were these invented, by whom, and do they serve a purpose other then presentation. Please answer this post... we have spent way too much of our Saturday night searching the internet for answers; alas, there are none.

I believe they are to protect the bone from charring. But I'm not for certain.
